Introduction to the alumni board: Matthias Schmid
Matthias Schmid, Business Economist, CFE, Executive M.B.L.-HSG, is Director at mpacts GmbH and the President of the Executive M.B.L.-HSG Alumni Association.
Please quickly describe your background?
I am a business economist by background and with my company mpacts GmbH I advise international organisations who are targets of economic crime activities or who want to prevent it from happening. I mainly work for NPO’s, I advise governments, foundations and associations on the topics of anti-corruption and fraud prevention.
What is the mission or purpose of the Executive M.B.L.-HSG Alumni Association?
The Executive M.B.L.-HSG Alumni Association wants to serve its members in their professional development, provide a continued link to the colleagues who studied together as well as to the program. It does so by providing a set of great benefits, organizing exclusive events and lifelong learning on the subject of international business law.
What is your personal mission as the President of the Alumni Association?
Together with my colleagues of the board we wish to further integrate, consolidate and promote the benefits and advantages the Executive E.M.B.L.-HSG and the HSG-Alumni, which can not only be career enhancing but provide a first class network across the globe, be it in terms of business or business law.
In your personal opinion, what is the benefit of an alumni association in general and the Executive M.B.L.-HSG Alumni Association in particular?
It’s the network of over 24’000 graduates worldwide, where “easy access” is provided through a great mobile app and great mutual exchange can actually happen. With regards to the Executive M.B.L.-HSG Alumni it is the approach of lifelong learning, which is lived with the continued access to all up to date study material and the evolution of all modules of the program. And not only this – as an Alumni you can repeat or experience newly created modules for a very special price. In my opinion, in the future this will be the main tool of universtities to emotionally bind their graduates – the Executive M.B.L.-HSG program lives this already, together with its Alumni organization.
What do you especially look forward to in the year 2017 - either personally or in connection with the alumni association?
Clearly it is the Executive E.M.B.L.-HSG Alumni reunion in May in Tbilisi. For most Alumni it will be a unique opportunity to make a trip to a country, one would normally not travel to and get a taste of a fantastic culture, welcoming people and a unique mixture of the Occident and the Orient. Also, the geopolitical component is fascinating – we will also get an insight on this subject.
